Project:
Grand Beach - Sugar Beach
Traverse City, Michigan
Client Overview
The remodel project of two existing resort hotels came from LaBelle Management, owner of the two properties. The renovation included 195 guest rooms, a bridal suite, all public corridors and lobbies, two pool areas, game rooms and the breakfast areas. The client wanted to renovate from top to bottom, everything was to be replaced including carpet, wallcovering, furniture, window treatments and lighting. Mock-up rooms of the three different boutique looks were completed. As the facilities are busy year round durability and function were required for the overall design.
Design Program
SKP Design produced three themes to present to the client, each with it’s own unique look, they included: Michigan Beach, Great Lakes Contemporary and Island Retreat. Michigan Beach expresses the calming feel that the lakes provide, using blues and green against the cottage white furniture with a touch of whimsy in lighthouse lighting and custom steel fish wall art. The Great Lakes Contemporary reflected the local artistic flair using modern colors in greens and oranges with an over scale headboard in orange vinyl. Contemporary artwork and geometric shapes combine to created a refreshing space. The Island Retreat theme incorporated botanical elements and natural tones to create a warm welcoming environment for a different get-a-way experience. The public spaces on the ground floor also reflect the Island Retreat theme. The corridors continue the various schemes, which also assists with wayfinding.
The guest rooms were outfitted with new carpet, wallcovering, including an accent wall, drapery, artwork, mirrors and lighting. The new furniture by Kimball included a custom armoire to house the Television and clothing storage. A custom kitchenette was designed for the microwave, sink and coffee service; this unit also includes a bench for luggage or relaxation.
The bathrooms were completely remodeled with new flooring, wallcovering, granite counter tops, granite showers and glass shower doors. Unique mirrors, light fixtures and artwork continue the boutique theme of the guest room. |
