Bronson Administration Building
The Upjohn Company's former headquarters in downtown Kalamazoo was donated to Bronson Hospital by Pfizer, Inc.
Bronson Healthcare Group, a not-for-profit healthcare system serving southwest Michigan, relocated senior administration and other departments to this 4-story building.
Designed by Michigan architect Albert Kahn, this 1930's building was renovated and preserved as a treasured part of Kalamazoo's history. SKP paired an Art Deco streamlined industrial feel with warmer decorative elements from the era. Geometric shapes and linear patterns were incorporated, based on original photos of the space.
Our design scheme for the interior created a warm, welcoming environment while highlighting the details of the original architecture. Selected finishes represented several design elements of the historic building while upgrading to current maintenance and durability standards. To keep the integrity of the original design, most of the interior partitions walls remained in place. Each level included new tele-data rooms, break rooms and conference rooms. Restrooms were remodeled to meet barrier-free standards. First level changes created an open and more functional lobby area.
