The hotel owner needed to make slight modifications to freshen the overall design while staying true to the historic charm of the town. The challenge was to meet the brand requirements while working within a relatively small space.
SKP Design was tasked with making selections to update the lobby from the Comfort Inn/Choice Hotels corporate standards options. The lobby space doubles as the breakfast dining area, so furniture needed to be multi-functional and appealing. A new layout provides a variety of seating: high-top family style dining, low-top dining, and upholstered lounge seating. Carpet tiles from Aqua are inset into existing marble tile flooring, creating the look of an area rug. Red was introduced as an accent color, adding visual interest and a welcome change from the previously all neutral color palette. Lounge seating on the mezzanine level is an extension of the lobby space and highlights the two-story ceiling height. Patterned carpet from Lexmark adds texture and interest to the corridors and coordinates with existing wall finishes. Wood look porcelain tile provides transitions in the corridors as the carpet pattern changes direction.
