Girl Scouts Program and Training Center

Kalamazoo, Michigan

The Girl Scout Program and Training Center has been a collaboration of many creative minds including girls of all ages from Midwest Michigan. The original concept developed by the girls was a place to feel safe and to leap and soar in life.

SKP Design was asked to lead design charrettes with girls and other team members to define and characterize the interior spaces. The design led to an open environment with lofty spaces, which include fireplaces, decks and multipurpose spaces connected by ramps. The building elements are exposed to be used as a teaching tool for girls. The vision for the building was to create an urban experience in contrast to the rural camp experience.
