It all started in 1969: Sondra Phillips moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan when her father took a position as a graphic designer for the Upjohn Company. She enjoyed growing up in the area, before she moved to Ann Arbor and then Chicago. Sondra returned to Kalamazoo in 1991, and established SKP Design in 1996. She and her family are engaged in the community and the rich culture it has to offer. Southwest Michigan has proven to be an excellent location to raise a family as well as be an interior designer.
The relatively small size of the community has created the opportunity to design all kinds of projects from art commissions to medical offices. The diverse client base has offered SKP Design a wide range of experiences. We continue to invest in the local community by serving on community boards and participating in volunteer roles. In addition, we offer internship experiences to students at Western Michigan University and other area schools.
In 2020, SKP Design opened an office location in Holland to serve the lakeshore community. Through the years, SKP Design has worked and completed projects in Holland, St. Joseph, Benton Harbor, New Buffalo, South Haven and Saugatuck. Project locations in northern Michigan include Traverse City, Mackinaw Island and Escanaba.
Growing up in Kalamazoo, Sondra has enjoyed the nearby lakeshore her entire life. She loves being near the water and appreciates the natural beauty the Lake Michigan coastline has to offer.
