CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS OFFICE - 2016

RETAIL STORE - 2002

Rx Optical wanted to build a contemporary new headquarters in Kalamazoo that reflected the corporate culture. The overall goal was to create a timeless interior, using trendy elements in places that could be easily modified over time. Neutral finishes are accented with colors to create a dynamic space.

To ensure longevity, design features were tied to corporate branding. Rx Optical's corporate color is blue and was used throughout the space. Sherwin Williams 7605 Gale Force is the blue used in recessed ceiling areas in the break room and board room. In private spaces, entire walls were painted in accent colors. In large open work areas, interior door and window frames were painted Sherwin Williams 6710 Melange Green to bring in an accent color without overwhelming the space. Pops of color can also be found in the furniture, such as the green chairs in the training auditorium.

No space was left untouched. Thoughtful colors and accents were used throughout the building. Round mirrors add a design feature in the toilet rooms. Horizontal subway tile behind the mirrors provides a durable finish and a lively accent color. Each floor has a unique break room space to provide variety for employees. The first floor break room has access to an outdoor patio with seating for lunches al fresco. Blue subway backsplash tile and graphic tile on the front of the island bring excitement to a space that is otherwise neutral. The second floor break room features oversized drum shades and chair cushions in vibrant orange. Both spaces offer a variety of seating options: cafe tables and chairs, bar stools at the island, and booth style bench seating.

Neutral carpet tile with a graphic pattern keeps open office areas lively. Flooring choices include Lineation and Naturally Drawn collections from Miliken, Steppin' Out and Noble Materials collections from Shaw Contract, and Kinetex collection from J+J Flooring Group. Wallcovering throughout the building is from D.L. Couch.
