Commercial Design

Corporate Office

Portage, Michigan

Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc. is a supplier of scientific instrumentation, reagents and consumables, and software services based in Waltham, Massachusetts. SKP Design teamed with Thermo Fisher Scientific and architect Howard Overbeek to design and remodel 30,000 square feet of space located in Portage, Michigan.

The project included the lobby, customer demonstration lab, hoteling spaces, training rooms, conference rooms, toilet rooms, a nursing mother room, employee break room, private offices and open office areas. All new Haworth furniture layouts were designed, selected, purchased, and installed as part of the remodel. Corporate colors were utilized strategically to create a bold, approachable, and contemporary interior aesthetic.

Original art creates vibrant focal points throughout the space. Paintings on rusted steel by artist Mike Elsass were purchased from Water Street Gallery in Douglas, Michigan. Abstract landscape paintings by Matthew Swanson and paintings of natural forms by Rein Vanderhill came from J. Petter Galleries, also in Douglas, Michigan. Photography by Fran Dwight was purchased directly from the artist.
