When Tulips Little Pop Up Shop had the opportunity to double in size and get a corner location with better visibility, they turned to SKP Design for help. In the expanded space, we designed a custom cash wrap counter, added more retail fixtures, and created a spot for relaxing outside the fitting rooms.
Overall, the design goal was to include a mix of elegance, industrial and whimsical. The front of the cash wrap area is an elegant matte finish Formica laminate called White Marble Herringbone. Counter tops are Formica ColorCore2 New White in a gloss finish. Most of the retail fixtures are industrial pipe style. Beautiful Lumicor pendant light fixtures suggest tulips in bloom, adding a touch of whimsy. Branding is focused in the central cash wrap counter area. The rest of the store remains neutral to complement changing retail items from season to season. Custom millwork was designed to accommodate an existing bump out in the wall behind the cash wrap station. A focal wall with white floating display shelves is painted Tulips brand pink, Sherwin Williams 6584 Cheery. An adjacent wall is two shades lighter (6582 Impatiens Petal) and features a large rubdown vinyl store logo graphic - cost effective and eye catching!
The former location had carpet which was difficult to maintain and keep clean. Now, the store has wood look vinyl plank Tarkett Contract flooring from the Crafted Plank collection (color: Oak Grove). Outside the fitting rooms, an Oriental rug from Wayfair adds texture and color. White leather chairs from Modern Line and a World Market marble top table provide a comfortable space to wait. One fitting room is larger to meet ADA standards and to accommodate a mom with kids. We made a conscious decision to use acoustical ceiling tiles which absorb sound. Along with natural daylight, the evenly spaced fluorescent fixtures provide consistent lighting and enhance the shopping experience. Even our photographer commented that the space was well lit and true to color.
